1949 Camels Ad
One of the things that strikes me as very odd about vintage advertising is how many so-called "aristocrats" and blue-bloods were recruited to endorse products. Apparently, in spite of being staunch egalitarians, Americans were still fascinated with the hoi polloi to want to be like one of them.
Incidentally, a search on Mrs. Phillip Vanderbogart Nash turned up nothing, suggesting that the aristocratic lady in this photo was nothing more than a fictional character or just a relic from a bygone era that doesn't matter anymore.
